UNESCO Champions Living Heritage and Arts for Sustainable Development at Jeju Forum 2026
During the 21st Jeju Forum for Peace and Prosperity (held 24–26 June in Jeju, Republic of Korea), UNESCO highlighted the critical role of culture in sustainable development through two major sessions. The first session, "Living Heritage, Sustainable Futures," emphasized integrating intangible cultural heritage into school curricula to foster global citizenship and cross-cultural understanding. The second session launched a new joint initiative between Jeju Province and UNESCO called "Je-Create: Culture and Innovation for a Sustainable Future." As part of this initiative, a parallel panel titled "Global Co-Creation: Artistic Response to Climate Emergency" brought together international organizations, including Bangkok 1899, to discuss how artistic practices can drive climate action. The panel addressed the emotional resonance of art, the logistical and financial hurdles of maintaining creative spaces, and the necessity of equitable, cross-border artist exchanges.
