At Bangkok 1899, community engagement is at the heart of our mission. As part of our programming, we co-create a range of projects that bring together artists, youth, local leaders and marginalized groups to explore the intersection of culture, sustainability and social impact. Discover our initiatives designed to empower voices, cultivate inclusion and respond to urgent local and global challenges through the arts.

Nang Loeng Community Health Activity & Workshop

April 9, 2026

Students and dedicated faculty from the Applied Thai Traditional Medicine program, Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University, brought meaningful health support to the Nang Loeng community and Ford Community Center members. This activity was organized by Baan Nanglerng and COMMUNITY LAB.

Se(w)cular Stitches: Kantha Connections
Stitching Circle Workshop

January 11, 2026

This stitching circle held at Bangkok 1899’s garden was a morning of learning the histories of embroidery and textiles from India, Northern Thailand and Laos with our facilitators Rubina from Rafunaama and Rachna from Tikkiwallah. The workshop ended with the stitching session, inviting participants to weave together the histories they carry and the futures they imagine. It was a beautiful morning of collective making and shared reflection.

DCCE Opens Urban Low-Carbon Learning Centre Model — "Nang Loeng Model"

March 24, 2026

The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, through the Department of Climate Change and Environment (DCCE), officially launched the "Low-Carbon Learning Centre Bangkok — Nang Loeng Model: Community-Based Tourism for a Cooler Planet." The opening ceremony was presided over by Mr. Komet Phuttason, Deputy Director-General of the Department of Climate Change and Environment, and was held at Bangkok 1899 and the Ford Community Center (FCC). The centre aims to establish a model site for climate change adaptation in an urban context, showcasing the integration of cultural heritage and traditional ways of life with modern environmental management.

Na Projects hosted the Roots & Resilience event, a special event to honor World Refugee Day, celebrating the culture, creativity and strength of displaced communities living in Thailand. There was a refugee-led food and craft market in our garden, featuring henna art, handmade textiles and unique goods from around the world.

A Night for Myanmar: Fundraising Dinner

May 17, 2025

Held at Na Café, this fundraising dinner raised 184,970 THB for Medical Action Myanmar to support earthquake relief efforts. Huge thanks to Chef Trish of Bamama, the amazing DJs and performers, and Wine Garage for generously donating their time, talent, and support. You brought warmth, flavor, and rhythm to the cause.

2019-2022

On June 20, Bangkok 1899 celebrated World Refugee Day and the unwavering tenacity of local refugees in Bangkok, Thailand. World Refugee Day honors the strength and courage of people who have been forced to flee their home country to escape conflict or persecution. This is an occasion to build empathy and understanding for their plight and to recognize their resilience in rebuilding their lives.

2020

Hero Activity Books & Art Relief Kits was a community program aimed at bringing color back into our homes and neighborhoods despite the struggles created by COVID-19. We planned to distribute 1,000 custom-made coloring books and art supplies packages to under-served primary school students in Bangkok.

Covid Relief Bangkok was established in March 2020 in response to the devastating health and economic impacts created by the pandemic. It was founded through a coalition of individuals and organizations including: SATI Foundation, Scholars of Sustenance and Urban Studies Lab, Creative Migration (East) Foundation and the Thai Health Volunteers Foundation.
